Vario was approached by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society San Diego/Hawaii Chapter, one of the country’s largest chapters, to produce their annual Light The Night Walk.
The 2018 event involved 50+ vendor partners, 5000+ attendees, an extended live Fireworks display, and months of planning. City streets are shut down, a variety of permits must be procured and collaboration between multiple city agencies is involved. With the event taking place at San Diego’s Waterfront Park with no existing services, needs included potable water, restrooms, sanitation and waste management, security, police, fire, and paramedic services, and coordination with multiple city agencies.
Vario’s design and engagement team worked with the Executive Director Kathlene Seymour and her local event team, as well as the National LLS Campaign managers who oversee all events in North America. Through multiple planning sessions we were able to select a location and develop a site flow that worked for all parties involved.
To conceptualize the space Vario developed scaled diagrams and renderings that could be updated in real-time with the Local and National LLS event teams. This collaboration allowed for details to communicated effectively and precisely. At the event we provided lighting and audio designed to allow for 5000+ guests to have an exceptional experience no matter where they were on the event site. This included LED Walls, a large-scale PA system including delay towers, and computer controlled lighting which allowed for total blackout at specific moments during the program.
Vario assisted with a multitude of services from Site Selection, reserving San Diego’s Waterfront Park as the location which could support the walk and all of the ancillary vendors and services. Permitting for Fireworks, city street closures, police and fire were all part of the planning process. On-site execution included Event Management, A/V Production, Decor, and Logistics.
